Herbal Remedies To Treat A Cold

Good Morning from the Garden Cafe!! I hope you are feeling well on this chilly, early morning while enjoying your favorite cup of coffee. Whether you've got an aching body, a runny nose or a sore throat, there is an herbal remedy that can soothe and cure your cold symptoms.

Echinacea strengthens the immune system and can shorten the length of a cold or flu. Drink a cup of echinacea tea every day from the start of winter as a perventive measure. Rosemary as a essential oil or dried or fresh herb, eases headaches and sore throats and can also raise the spirit and gargling with a diluted syrup can ease a sore throat. Ginger is available in the root or essential oil form, this winter warmer is an antiseptic, a stimulant and expectorant all in one. Dilute this essential oil and use as a muscle rub. Oreganol or oil of Oregano (P73) is an amazing antiseptic also. Just a few drops under the tongue, or in water or juice daily can fight off any sickness. Even rubbing this oil on the area of the body that aches can be healing. There are many natural ingredients that can help the body heal itself. Also drinking hot herbal teas with honey are my favorite during the winter.

A healthy diet is essential. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin C such as broccoli and citrus fruits and zinc found in whole grains. Stress is a biggy and it can weaken our immune system, making you more susceptiable to colds. So staying positive, getting plenty of sleep, eating your fruits and vegetables and using herbs and essential oils will help you fight off sickness and boost your immune system during this cold winter.

So enjoy this fall and winter months and stay healthy!! And of coarse you are always welcome at the cafe, sit back, relax and enjoy the coffee!!
